Black Diamond Mi'kmaq
A majority-owned First Nations business
In the year 2020, a significant partnership was formed between Wskijnu'k Mtmo'taqnuow Agency Ltd ("WMA") and Black Diamond Limited Partnership (MBD), marking a milestone in collaborative efforts. MBD was specifically established to seize opportunities associated with the Goldboro LNG project partnership, aiming to create prospects for all Nova Scotia First Nations Mi'kmaq communities.
The Black Diamond Group has a history of forging Indigenous partnerships that are proactive and enduring. These partnerships are not just business ventures; they are a commitment to long-term Indigenous engagement that has led to the enhancement of community capacity and yielded beneficial economic outcomes for all stakeholders involved. The Indigenous engagement initiatives by Black Diamond Group are spread across Canada, demonstrating a comprehensive range of services from their Workforce Housing and BOXX Modular businesses.

These partnerships are built on the foundation of mutual respect and shared benefits. For instance, the collaboration with the Fort Nelson First Nation through Black Diamond Dene LP, established in September 2009, is an equity-based agreement aimed at providing quality services in the Horn River Basin while allowing the Fort Nelson First Nation people to engage in the development of their traditional lands. Similarly, the partnership with the West Moberly First Nations, known as Black Diamond Cygnus, was signed in January 2011 to provide accommodations and modular space solutions within the Nation’s traditional territory.
The partnership with the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia, formed in September 2020, is particularly noteworthy as it was created to pursue opportunities related to the Goldboro LNG project partnership, which is expected to generate opportunities for all Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq communities.
These strategic alliances reflect Black Diamond Group’s dedication to fostering sustainable relationships with Indigenous communities, ensuring that the economic benefits are shared and that the communities have the opportunity to grow and thrive alongside the company. The success of these partnerships is a testament to the company’s proactive approach to Indigenous engagement and its commitment to delivering positive economic results for all parties involved. The partnerships are structured to improve local capital and offer community members the chance to start their own businesses and create sustainable careers, thereby contributing to the overall economic development of the regions they serve.
The Indigenous partnerships of Black Diamond Group exemplify a model of corporate responsibility and community engagement that is both progressive and impactful. By working closely with Indigenous communities, the company has not only expanded its business footprint but also contributed to the empowerment and economic prosperity of the communities it partners with. This approach has set a benchmark for how companies can engage with Indigenous communities in a manner that is respectful, productive, and mutually beneficial.
