Black Diamond Nunavut
A majority-owned First Nations business
In October of 2020, Black Diamond Group embarked on a significant venture by forming a partnership with an Inuit-owned business based in Pond Inlet, aiming to explore opportunities within the Baffin region of Nunavut. This collaboration not only signifies a strategic move into a new territory but also underscores Black Diamond's commitment to fostering relationships with Indigenous communities. The local business's 100% Inuit ownership has enabled Black Diamond Nunavut to secure both its Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) and Nunavummi Nangminiqaqtunik Ikajuuti (NNI) certifications, marking a milestone in the company's operations in the region.
The ethos of Black Diamond Group’s Indigenous partnerships is rooted in a proactive and enduring approach to Indigenous engagement across Canada. These partnerships are more than just business ventures; they are a testament to the company’s dedication to building stronger communities by increasing local capacity and delivering mutually beneficial economic outcomes. The Indigenous partnerships of Black Diamond Group are strategically spread across the nation, ensuring a wide-reaching impact and accessibility to the comprehensive range of services offered by the company. From Workforce Housing solutions to BOXX Modular, Black Diamond’s offerings are diverse and tailored to meet the unique needs of each community and project.

The Indigenous partnerships of Black Diamond Group are not limited to a single region or service. They encompass a variety of collaborations with different communities, each with its own set of goals and achievements. For instance, the partnership with the Fort Nelson First Nation through Black Diamond Dene LP, established in September 2009, is an equity-based agreement aimed at providing quality products at competitive prices while allowing the local community to benefit from the development of their traditional lands. Similarly, the partnership with the West Moberly First Nations, known as Black Diamond Cygnus, was initiated in January 2011 within Treaty 8 British Columbia. This agreement focuses on providing remote and temporary accommodation as well as modular space solutions to customers operating in the Nation’s traditional territory.
Black Diamond Group’s Indigenous partnerships are a reflection of the company’s core values and its commitment to meaningful Indigenous engagement. These partnerships have been recognized for their success and impact, with Black Diamond Dene and Black Diamond Cygnus celebrating a decade of collaboration in 2020, highlighting the sustainability and strength of these relationships. The company’s approach to Indigenous relations is a fundamental aspect of its identity, and it continues to foster long-lasting relationships that respect, honor, and work hard for the betterment of all parties involved.
Through these partnerships, Black Diamond Group has not only contributed to the economic prosperity of Indigenous communities but has also embraced the cultural richness and diversity that these communities bring. The company’s proactive stance on Indigenous engagement has set a benchmark for corporate responsibility and community development, ensuring that the benefits of business growth are shared and that the future is built on a foundation of respect and mutual success. Black Diamond Group remains dedicated to its vision of building opportunities for stronger communities, and its Indigenous partnerships are a shining example of this commitment in action.
